Guidelines for contributors

Kosmorama welcomes manuscripts or proposals for articles on every aspect of film and film culture. Please submit all proposals and manuscripts to larss@dfi.dk.

  • Feature articles should have a length of approximately 5000 words. We are aware that sometimes a bit more or a bit less is just perfect.
  • The article’s title and subtitle should be kept short, preferably at no more than 45 characters each.
  • Write in WORD.
  • Do not insert photos in the text, but write a number in the text and add a numbered list of illustrations.
  • Film and book titles are written in italics (in Roman letters). Use the original title followed by a parenthesis with director’s name, country and year of release. However, for for instance Asian and other titles in languages supposedly foreign to English and Scandinavian speaking readers, use the international title followed by a parenthesis with year of release and the original Asian title: Spirited Away (Sen to Chihiro no kamikakushi, Hayao Miyazaki, JP, 1991). Later in the article, the English title will suffice.
  • Quotes in "….". Ambiguous words, irony and words that for some reason need a certain stress, use '…' (Raoul Coutard is 'dollied' of in a handcart …).
  • Numbers from 1-9 is written: one, two, three … From 10 and onwards, use numbers.
  • Dates in the text is: August 19 1945, but in references it is 19/8 1945.
  • If notes are necessary (the less the better), use end notes and write the note numbers manually in the text – like this (1).
  • The bibliography is written like this:
Armes, Roy (1968). The Cinema of Alain Resnais. London, Zwemmer.
Bauman, Zygmunt (1997). Moderniteten og Holocaust. Oslo, Vidarforlaget.
Flitterman-Lewis, Sandy (1988). ”Documenting the Ineffable. Terror and Memory in Alain Resnais’s Night and Fog”. In: Grant, Barry Keith and Sloniowski, Jeannette (ed): Documenting the Documentary. Close Readings of Documentary Film and Video. Detroit, Waine State University Press.
